Label Review.

2017 album.

Our Overview.

Formed only in 2012 in the not noticeably spaced-out town of Kettering, Northants, Temples were already selling out venues. Temples are an English psychedelic rock band, by singer-guitarist James Edward Bagshaw, bassist Thomas Edison Warmsley and keyboardist Adam Smith. The band released their debut album ‘Sun Structures’ on 10th February 2014, including the singles Shelter Song, Keep in the Dark, Colours to Life and Mezmerise. They have received considerable press attention and have been cited by Johnny Marr and Noel Gallagher as the best new band in Britain and have supported Interpol, Suede, The Vaccines and Kasabian.

The Temples' sound combines British psychedelia from down the ages. They make trippy psychedelic pop that combines the experimental sound of bands like the Move and mid-period Byrds with the classic song craftsmanship of the Beatles. There are echoes of everything from early Pink Floyd to Echo and the Bunnymen and 90s acts such as Spirea X. Whilst some bands can get lost in a psychedelic fog, the Temples have a promising grip on the sort of 60s-vintage pop songwriting.

We here at Keymailorder fell in love with band with their debut album, with James spiral hair so reminiscent of Mrc Bolans', their intimate understanding of a sound so prior to their years that they grasp in every track and now they are unveiling new material, their second album 'Volcano'. The record is preceded by new cut 'Certainty'. The video is online now, with director Alden Volney explaining: "This is based on a recurring dream I have been having since childhood about getting into a sea of plastic. So when the band approached me about doing something inspired by those JPOP videos that ooze quirkiness and eccentricity, I thought injecting the color palettes and aesthetics of Japan into this idea could be a good fit. It's designed to feel like a fever dream you'd have after spending too much time in a Japanese dollar store".

About the new album, bass player and back-up singer Warmsley said in a press release, “We discovered a lot as we went along, and the excitement at having done so radiates outwards.”
