Description

Label Review.

Try Argonaut. Argonaut Try. The breakthrough second album masterfully produced for the classic Argonaut sound. Post 1991 punk rock vibes with experimental moments and a touch of nineties guitar pop. Spawned the singles TV and MBID.

Our Overview.

Many bands will react against what they made previously in the search to better their art. For their second album, London based Argonaut did exactly that pooling the talents of all five members to top their debut album which they felt was lacking in some life due to its more clinical production.

The album began in a similar fashion to the first by using original demos as a foundation. Once new rough basslines were laid down in early 2013, Lorna, Abby and Nathan’s vocals plus proper drum tracks were recorded at the Criminal Records studios that summer. Further work on the album was hampered by label issues but the band continued gigging and even found a residency at ‘Let Them Eat Gak’ a regular night in East London.

Enter producer Joules Parrott who took over the album in 2014 overseeing final bass overdubs and mixing. The project was finally launched in November 2014 with the video (see below) for the album opener ‘TV’. The album appeared in March 2015 with further videos and shows but it was around this time that bassman Paul had to quit due to commitments outside London. Joules slipped effortlessly into his place to continue promotional duties.

The band were much happier with this record. All the members played a part and despite the fact it was largely a studio concoction like the first album, Joules managed to give the album a live feel with his tireless work behind the mixing desk.
