Description

Label Review.

21 track collection featured all their singles (mono mixes where applicable) and key album tracks. DVD contains: I Can Hear The Grass Grow (promo film) / Beat Beat Beat (German TV 26th June 1967 - 3 tracks) / Fire Brigade (TOTP 15th February 1968) / BBC Colour Me Pop 4th January 1969 (10 songs) / 6 Beat Club appearances 1968-1970. Formed in the mid-'60s, the Move were so named because the five musicians from the original lineups were moving from established Birmingham groups into a new band.

Our Overview.

The Move are one of Britain's most successful and respected bands, having had numerous hit records and they can boast being the first band to be played on BBC Radio 1.

The Move were difficult to categorise musically as their style ranged from pop to psychedelic, blues, progressive, 1950s style rock 'n' roll and even country and western! Above all, it was Roy Wood's talent as a highly original songwriter that propelled the band on an extended chart run and laid the foundations of what was to become one of the biggest and most successful British rock bands of the late 60’s and early 70’s.

However The Move never achieved legendary status because they didn’t conquer America. By the time the US music press did pay attention to the band, it was too late, as John Mendlesohn noted for Rolling Stone in 1971:“The Move is the most under-rated rock group and deserve to be put in the same category as Led Zeppelin and The Faces.”
