Our Overview.
The career paths of bands with long and rich histories are akin to fingerprints and no two are identical. No such statement could be more appropriate and applicable than to the forty-plus year career of British symphonic rock pioneers Renaissance.
The band, acclaimed for their unique blending of progressive rock with classical and symphonic influences, can trace its origins back to 1969 when the Yardbirds disbanded, and founding members Keith Relf and Jim McCarty began to organize a new group devoted to the experimentation between rock, folk, and classical forms.
Renaissance were at the peak of their popularity when they recorded a series of great concerts, televised and broadcast on TV and radio by the BBC in the 1970’s. The group that blended melodic rock with classical music, and featured the outstanding voice of Annie Haslam, were playing at their inspirational best during shows now available on this 3CD+DVD package.
They are seen and heard performing classic songs from their finest albums, such as: ‘Ashes Are Burning’ and ‘Turn Of The Cards’ over Four Discs, including the film of a rare BBC ‘Sight & Sound - In Concert’ live show from the Golders Green Hippodrome, London on January 8th 1977.
The extensive liner notes include new interviews by Chris Welch with band members: Annie Haslam, Jon Camp and Terence Sullivan, who reminisce about the glory days of the group and discuss the superb music they performed on these historic shows.
