Our Overview.
Its commonly acknowledged that The Stooges were a major influence on punk bands on both sides of the Atlantic and that statement is impossible to deny. Judy Berman (Pitchfork) summed them up: “We could argue forever over which band wrote the first punk song, but let’s not mince words about one thing: It was the Stooges who pioneered the punk performance. Iggy Pop stomped and writhed onstage like he’d just swallowed a live snake, rocking a dog collar years before Malcolm McLaren thought to package music, nihilism, and fetish gear as a new youth subculture.”
They were the primal side of rock'n'roll .. punks ahead of their time...look at them they look like a bunch of thugs. In an age of peace and love and super groups he made rock dirty and dissonant and set to lyrics of nihilism that set the blueprint for later punks.
Ron Asheton recalled “for the Electric Circus concerts Iggy painted his body with silver paint and spray glitter all over himself, the glitter coming out of his nose and ears months after the shows were over.”
The Stooges extraordinarily rare live performance by the short lived 1971 line up with James williamson AND Ron Asheton on guitars with Jimmy Recca on Bass and Scott Rock action Asheton on drums.
