2017 album.
Our Overview.
Hailing from Austin Texas The Black Angels Ambassadors of the current psych rock scene, not only with their music but as the founders and hosts of the annual Austin Psych Fest / Levitation Festival for the past nine years.
Five albums in, and the Black Angels are getting even trippier. New album ‘Death Song’ has captured the Black Angels at their mind-warping best and their single ‘Currency’ does not disappoint building from chilled beginnings to a psychedelic climax.
Produced by Phil Ek (Built To Spill, Father John Misty, Band Of Horses, Fleet Foxes, The Shins). Christian Bland (guitarist) said Phil; “captured our live sound perfectly, while adding his magic touch of thick, layered lushness. We set our amps and effects and he captured it very organically. He didn’t rely on post effects, it was all captured beforehand then he sprinkled his magic dust.”
The band’s music has been used in numerous film, advertising and TV projects including HBO’s ‘True Detective’, ‘Nashville’, ‘True Blood’, ‘The Twilight Saga’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed’ and they have toured with Queens Of The Stone Age, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Keys and more and played festivals such as Glastonbury, Fuji Rock, Primavera, Coachella and Bonnaroo.
“Heavy psych rarely feels as fresh as it does with The Black Angels” - NPR Music
“…deliver insistent, neo-psychedelic drones, reaching back to the most ritualistic 1960s songs of the Velvet Underground, the Doors and their hometown forebears from Austin, the 13th Floor Elevators, along with a touch of 1970s Krautrock.” - NYT
“Some of the heaviest material of their career... blistering” - Consequence Of Sound
