Our Overview.

“Wreckless Eric sees the same things that we do, reads them, hears them, experiences them, and then he writes about them…he sets his seared vistas to the most uplifting, glorious, celestial seismic lurch, because he knows, like he wrote long ago, “it’s just a pop song.” - Dave Thompson, Goldmine.

Wreckless Eric is Eric Goulden. He was given the name to hide behind. After a while he realised he was stuck with it. His recording career began in 1977 when he was little more than an ex-teenage art student with the enduring “Whole Wide World” (recently a Billboard chart hit all over again for the US band Cage The Elephant). He sidestepped the mechanics of fame and became Britain’s premier underground household name, much loved and often underestimated.

Originally signed to Stiff Records, his third album ‘Big Smash’ (1980) made the UK Top 30 but unhappy with being part of the mainstream music machine albeit on an independent label, he left them to forge a career completely on his own terms forming numerous bands and occasionally putting out a new album under the Wreckless Eric name, as he has with this latest record.

His new album ‘Construction Time & Demolition’ is the culmination of over forty years of touring and recording - a life of hardship, creativity and getting away with it. Loud, dissonant, lyrical, sometimes gently melodic, ‘Construction Time & Demolition’ is cogent music for desperate times.
