Our Overview.

Mercury Music Prize winners Young Fathers return with their third album ‘Cocoa Sugar’. It follows the group’s previous two albums ‘DEAD’ and ‘White Men Are Black Men Too’. Written and recorded throughout 2017 in the band’s basement studio and HQ, ‘Cocoa Sugar’ sees Young Fathers operating with a newfound clarity and direction and is without doubt their most confident and complete statement to date.

Formed in 2008 in Edinburgh by Alloysious Massaquoi, Kayus Bankole and Graham ‘G’ Hastings, still in their teens, they began performing in the local area before signing to the Anticon label for who they released two ‘mixtapes’ which in turn brought them to the attention of the wider music industry. Signing to Ninja Tune offshoot Big Dada, their aforementioned two albums saw them garner widespread acclaim including that Mercury Prize. Since then they have worked with Massive Attack and cornered three tracks on the T2 Trainspotting soundtrack which included a song specially written for the film: “Only God Knows”.
