Cigarettes After Sex are an ambient pop group based out of Brooklyn, NY, led by vocalist / songwriter Greg Gonzalez and are inspired by the likes of Cocteau Twins, Mazzy Star and the sound of early 60s records like the Paris Sisters, who we are delighted to say have finally released their self titled debut album.
Since their formation, the band have become a word-of-mouth phenomenon, and upswell of millions of YouTube hits, have rained on this romantic, wistful Brooklyn band that plays at a heartbroken crawl, generating over 100 million views on YouTube for their exquisitely yearning, graceful pop noir - all without the support of a label.
Many of them originated from recommendations via the video platform and a fanbase of pleasantly surprised listeners. "That's a total mystery," says frontman Greg Gonzalez, brushing off any suggestion of selective targeting. "If I would've known how to get some sort of promotion like that I would've tried." As his YouTube numbers skyrocketed in the second half of 2015, it led up to November's Bandcamp release of the sweet-and-sour slowcore original "Affection" and a low-BPM cover of REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Loving You."
Having sold out shows around the world throughout 2016 and 2017, Cigarettes After Sex have now partnered with Partisan Records and they recently released the singles ‘K.’ and ‘Apocalypse’ to much acclaim.Vinyl format includes digital download code.
