‘Blinded By The Neon’ is a rap tribute to the art of storytelling. The contemplation of a man alone in the twilight hours, plus a bittersweet emotional cocktail of self-doubt comprised of equal parts love, the side-effects of success and the life of an artist, are the chief inspirations behind this conceptual debut LP by jazz/hip-hop group Ferge X Fisherman aka German/American vocalist Fritz Fisherman and the German producer Ferge.

Citing legendary platters such as ‘Heart Of Saturday Night’ by Tom Waits and ‘In The Wee Small Hours’ by Frank Sinatra as influences for their own modern masterpiece, ‘Blinded By The Neon’ revolves around a central character and his shifting feelings of self-awareness and ambivalent relationships with his own art and with himself as an artist. Musically, the arc of the album sweeps from sweet melancholy and tasteful strings to freak beat maker-aesthetics and on to melodic gospel and soul.
The concept of the record determines the musical route and takes the listener on a journey through our hero’s complex inner world. With an expanded lineup, Ferge X Fisherman have been making a name for themselves as a live act in Germany, demonstrating how the balancing act between electronically produced hip hop and live instruments can succeed. Here, they combine the best of both worlds and make this album a dynamic, varied pleasure for the listener, retaining its attraction even after repeated plays. Let yourself be blinded by the neon.
