Our Overview.

Sampa is Australian hip-hop’s next great hope. A Sydney-based, Zambia-raised rapper, dropped a mixtape – make that a great mixtape – that sounded so polished, so confident, that it pleasantly belied her newcomer status. The Triple J Unearthed winner’s heavenly poetry and swirling philosophising (such as the pretzel-shaped logic of “I lived in a box, I underestimated living life larger than myself / Like who the hell stole the knowledge that I pre-existed previously to myself” in Class Trip) is fronted by a Teflon-coated toughness.

Equal parts songwriter, poet, singer and lyricist, Sampa The Great makes her debut on Big Dada with her finest mixtape to date, ‘Birds And The BEE9’, featuring production from Blue Daisy, Sensible J and Silentjay.

The internationally acclaimed Melbourne resident has supported Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat, Joey Bada$$ and Hiatus Kaiyote and just finished her own headline EU tour. Sampa has also played venues such as KOKO, Sydney Opera House and Somerset House as well as festival slots at Laneway Festival, The Great Escape, Golden Plains, Sugar Mountain, Womad and Vivid Live.

Sampa counts Tupac, Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu among her musical idols and has enough spit and spunk to one day sit alongside the greats.
