Label Review.

Argonaut, the eponymous debut album. The culmination of six home studio demo albums re-worked and re-recorded for the masses. Nineties style grunge guitar comparisons with some tender moments from a band starting out with their hearts firmly emblazoned on their sleeves.

Our Overview.

Over eighteen months in the making, the first Argonaut album proper finally saw Nathan and Lorna Lyons musical ambitions realised after nearly ten years treading the boards. Throughout the noughties they recorded six ‘demo’ albums, stockpiling a mass of material along the way. At one point they acquired a rhythm section which promoted the only one of these early albums produced in a real studio. The others they recorded themselves at their home set-up in Camden.

Through connections made at gigs they eventually signed a deal with London based Criminal Records. Cherry-picking through their vast catalogue of songs, Nathan, Lorna and label boss Maha selected ten songs and built upon the original demos in order to create Argonaut’s debut album. Backing vocals were supplied by Abby, a friend of the group who subsequently joined on a full time basis. With the album nearly finished, the rhythm section of Paul and Rob completed the line-up and the five piece hit the road to begin building support in 2011.

The release of the album was delayed whilst videos were prepared and final mixing took place. First single, “Touch Electric” and its accompanying visuals (see below) saw interest build in the group at which point the label finally got the album out in November 2012, coinciding with second single “More Life” with its clever ‘transporting’ effects video supplied by the bands regular visual director Dave Meyer who produced promos for half of the albums ten songs which are all viewable on YouTube.
