Our Overview.
Sailor formed in 1973 and came to the attention of CBS Records. Rather than witnessing the customary long-haired rock bands prevalent at that time, they found themselves in a small room with four short haired young men who played a multitude of unlikely instruments and sang songs about red-light quarters, sleazy underworld characters, and romance of an altogether quirky nature.
Their debut album became a hit in their native Holland but it was their second album that gave the band their UK breakthrough with two Top 10 hits in early 1976: “Glass Of Champagne” and “Girls Girls Girls”. The album ‘Trouble’ scraped into the lower reaches of the charts. The first single (‘One Drink Too Many”) from the third album ‘The Third Step’ made the Top 40 but that was it for their UK success. After another couple of albums the group called it a day in 1978. Whilst different incarnations of the band have made more records since it’s their original run which is featured in this box set.
