Canadian rock trio Danko Jones release their new album ‘Rock Supreme’. Led by Danko Jones himself band have made a name for themselves and have been putting on a riotous rock & roll show since forming in 1996. Acclaimed as a must-see live band during memorable tours with the likes of Guns N' Roses, Motörhead and Clutch. The group's last album, 2017's ‘Wild Cat,’ cracked the sales charts in Canada and eight European territories, achieving the group's highest chart positions yet in Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland. Jones himself is a stunning frontman, part Reverend Horton Heat and part Little Richard. He holds a crowd in the palm of his hand like a TV preacher, albeit one with a hell-raising side.
On the group's new album, Danko Jones – the man and the band – up the ante considerably from the moment the very first words blast from the speakers: I'm in a band, and I love it / All I want to do is play my guitar and rock and roll. There's no midlife crisis here, no softening with age, no signs of self-doubt – just 11 fist-pumping (literally, in the case of “Fists Up High”) jolts of sonic adrenaline with nary a ballad in sight.
The album was produced by GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rise Against, Biffy Clyro) and featuring cover artwork by Ulf Lunden (Graveyard, Europe, Bombus), said Danko of this process “It was a blast working with Garth. We did it at his studios outside of Vancouver. Getting to record outside of our native Toronto is something we haven’t done in almost 12 years. Maybe that played into the sound of the album.”
Danko Jones follow a tradition set by bands like AC/DC, The Ramones, Slayer and Motörhead. They have a sound and they don’t really tinker with it too much. “If you liked the last album ‘Wild Cat’,” declares Danko “chances are you’ll like this one, too. Same bands influencing us album to album. Having said that, there are a ton of bands that we pull from for every album, everyone from The Stooges to Kool Keith, The Jam to The Gories, Thin Lizzy to The Birthday Party.”
